  • Alibaba’s greenlights $25 billion in stock repurchases: In a bid to assuage its investors, the e-commerce giant has given a thumbs up to $25 billion in stock repurchases. Investors are concerned about Alibaba’s stagnating growth in the wake of new rivals like PDD Holdings. 

FYI, Alibaba’s buyback plan is one of the biggest, under which the company repurchased shares worth $9.5 billion last year. 

  • Sony Buys Jackson Music for $600M: Sony Group has acquired a half interest in late pop star Michael Jackson’s music catalog for $600 million. One of the largest-ever such deals may include songs from other artists who are part of the Mijac publishing catalog. 

  • Paramount expects record Super Bowl ad sales: Paramount CEO Bob Bakish is all gung ho about record advertising sales from Super Bowl broadcast. Last year, the Super Bowl ad sales went as high as $500 million.  

  • Uber reports a 30% increase in active drivers: After last week’s blowout results, Uber reported that consumer spending for the year looks healthy and that active drivers on its app have risen by 30%.

  • Lovesac Company partners with KidSuper: The Lovesac Company announced a multi-season partnership with Fashion label KidSuper for a limited-edition Fall/Winter 2024 collection featuring artwork from artist, designer, and brand founder Colm Dillane. 

Abercrombie removes President of Global Brands ‘role’: The Board of Abercrombie & Fitch Co. Directors decided that the company would no longer have the position of President of Global Brands. The company’s current President of brands, Kristen Scott, will be leaving the company before 30th March. Interesting way of laying off? 🤔 

  • Coupang saves Farfetch from potential bankruptcy: The deal between South Korean e-commerce firm Coupang and luxury retailer Farfetch has helped Farfetch save itself from potential bankruptcy. Coupang will help Farfetch in logistical and marketing areas and help it streamline operations.
